Releasing our butterflies

Lesson: Understanding the World

Class: Reception - Horse Chestnut Class Year: 2022 - 2023

We have been observing our butterflies that have come out of their cocoons for the last 2-3 days. It was time to release two of them that were ready. Miss Milburn and Year 1 joined us for this very exciting event! 

We watched them as they started their journey exploring the wider world. We still have two butterflies to release on Monday when they are ready too, which we are very much looking forward to. It is interesting to see how they change and get stronger, once they are out of their cocoons.

Our class butterflies have created lots of discussion surrounding life cycles and nature. We learnt new vocabulary, including release, habitat, observation, chrysalis, cocoon, fragile, weak etc.
